Celebrate the contribution of nearly eight million British women during the Second World War on UN International Women’s Day.
There will be a programme of films and talks:
11.30 & 14.00 – Keep the home fires burning
A look at the challenges facing women running the home during the Second World War, featuring the film Britannia is a Woman (1940).
13.00 & 15.00 – Hard Graft
An examination of women’s contributions to industry, and the recruitment and conscription of women during the Second World War, featuring the films Nightshift (1942) and Jane Brown Changes her Job (1941)
There will also be handling sessions for younger visitors, looking at women’s wartime clothing, uniforms and ephemera.
