International Women’s Day – Manchester
International Women’s Day has been celebrated around the world since 1911, the day marks the achievements of women and their struggles for equality.
This year’s theme for Manchester is raising aspirations and celebrating local inspirational women.
Come and celebrate International Women’s Day 8 March 2009 at the Town Hall (Albert Square) 1 – 5pm.
This free event for women is open for all with something for everyone.
Highlights at the event include:
* Inspirational Women Panel – ask local inspirational women how they achieved their success and follow in their footsteps. The panel includes Jenni Murray (OBE), presenter of BBC radio 4 Women’s Hour, Fay Selvan, Chief Executive of the Big Life Company (they manage Big Issue North amongst other social initiatives) and Donna Hall, Chief Executive of Chorley Council and winner of Most Inspiring Woman in The Public Sector 2008.
* Live music from local female singers.
* Lesbian and Bisexual Women’s space, with lots of information and activities.
* Free belly dance workshop.
* Activities for young women.
* Discussions and consultations.
* Café and crèche facilities available.
