Sign up and feel good at Sugar and Spice 2009
To celebrate International Women’s Day (March 8), the Lesbian and Gay Foundation announce our third annual conference for lesbian and bisexual women – Sugar & Spice 3, Me, Myself and I.
Inspiring and Empowering
For the first time Sugar & Spice will be a weekend event and takes place over Saturday March 7 and Sunday March 8. The theme of the event will be Me, Myself and I, and will celebrate the inspirations and aspirations of lesbian and bisexual women, while empowering them to feel good about themselves and aspire to be all that they can be.
Sugar & Spice is the biggest health and well being event for lesbian and bisexual women in the UK. It acts as a fantastic opportunity to bring women together, to share knowledge, ideas and experiences in a safe and supportive environment.
Saturday’s Sugar & Spice
There will be a whole host of taster sessions on offer, such as: belly dancing, car maintenance, self defence, and song writing with Claire Mooney – who will help you create your own original ditty in just one hour! There will also be an opportunity to attend workshops with specific LB themes, including: sexual health, nutrition, smoking cessation and issues facing asylum seekers. Why not get creative in the craft room? Or indulge yourself in some free holistic therapies, including: reiki, massage, and aromatherapy. The Saturday session will close with a debate on the hot topics of the day, followed by an empowering film night featuring Angela Robinson’s D.E.B.S. Throughout the day, you’ll be treated to a feast of creativity as our inspirational and aspirational exhibition; will adorn the walls of the LGF.
Sunday’s Sugar & Spice
On Sunday, the event moves to Manchester Town Hall between one and five, as we join Manchester City Council in their International Women’s Day celebrations. There will be some fantastic information stalls on offer, from local sports, health and community groups, and you can mix and mingle in the lesbian and bisexual space. Finally, Sugar and Spice 2009 bows out on Sunday night with a comedy exclusive, as Barbara Nice (aka Janice Connelly star of Phoenix Nights) brings her hilarious show ‘Hiya and Higher’ to Manchester’s Vanilla Bar, especially for Sugar & Spice.
