International Women’s Day 2009

Celebrating Diversity, in Pursuit Of Equality – Birmingham

Sunday 8th March 2009 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM
3 Stone Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham

The West Midlands Wraparound Services Team will be staging an information fair for all the women clients living in the United Properties Management (UPM) initial accommodation.

It is a celebration of diversity within the hostel and a chance to educate and pass-on valuable information to our women clients in an interesting and fun way.

Joy Warmington of Birmingham Race Action Partnership (bRAP) will be the keynote speaker and the event also includes talks from representatives from several organisations and various activities for women and their children.

What we aim to achieve:
1. To ensure that all of the current women temporarily housed in United Properties Management (UPM) get to participate in the event.
2. To promote a better working relationship between Refugee Council and UPM.
3. To proactively increase our cohesive relationships with other organisations promoting diversity and equality.
4. To create a persuasive environment of information fair for our clients pertaining to women’s rights.

Expected project outcome
1. To develop a cohesive working relationship between the hostel provider and Refugee Council and other organisations.
2. For clients to complete the information fair with greater self-esteem, self-worth, and to awaken their mind-set to acquire new skills necessary to better equip them integrate in the regions multi-cultural society.
3. Of significance is that an additional outcome that our clients and key note guests would have a better understanding of the issues surrounding women from disadvantaged sector of our society.
4. To continue developmental projects for women in the hostel with the help of Volunteers.

* Women’s Aid
* Zimbabwean Community for Asylum

The event will be held at UPM’s dining hall and there will be light refreshments and raffle prices available.

This is our chance to give back the trust and support our women clients have been generously giving us. It is now our turn to validate their contribution.
