International Women’s Day 2009

50 million missing protest: 8am Friday 6th March, the great hall, guildhall, EC2

Women in india are being systematically killed off, usually before they are even born.

A large number of the baby girls are considered an economic burden, because of the high cost of weddings, while sons provide income, and are seen as a type of insurance by their parents. India is the heartland of sex-selectivE abortion as a result.

6,500 indian women are murdered every year over disputed dowries – the money that a woman brings to her new husband.

25% of indian girls die before they turn five – mostly starved or neglected.

This injustice will no longer be tolerated, ignored or forgotten.

We’ll be taking to the streets on international women’s day to support the 50 million missing women in india. We’ll be demanding that the indian goverNment protects its female citizens from violence. We need your support. JoiN us on the day and add your voice.
